MOBILE BROADBAND ACCESS

Executive Summary

IFRAnet is providing Mobile Broadband Access (MBA) Networks and Services to different kinds of network owners. The MBA System is based on the latest technique with the WIMAX open world standard. An MBA network combines two strategic features like no other networks does: Mobility and High-speed.

IFRAnet is helping countries with a great need for telecom infrastructure, since one and the same MBA network, being an IP network, can be used for any kind of communication (voice, data, video etc.) - and for a very large number of applications: both mobile and fixed telephony as well as datacom like Internet, VPN (Virtual Private Network) etc.

A MBA System is also much cheaper (network investments < 300 USD per subscriber) and more flexible than other systems for mobile or fixed networks.

The coming MBA networks based on the WIMAX standard could easily be equally worldwide spread as GSM is today. This enables International roaming between the networks, which means that the subscriber can use his equipment in any country for Internet Access and for Telephony.

Technical System

The MBA system is using the WIMAX world standard. The system operates in a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment allowing fast wireless data access indoor, outdoor and in vehicular mobility environments.

Being packet based, the air interface is statistically shared by users in a very efficient manner. Customers are able to experience an “always on” Internet connection but do not use any system capacity while not transmitting or receiving data. This technology can be deployed in a very similar manner to a cellular network, with the flexibility of omni, three and six sector cells. The system is commercially available for several frequency bands, e.g. the 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands, using one to six 5 MHz or 10 MHz channels. Of course using more channels the system capacity increases.

The complete Radio Access Network solution consists of Radio Base Stations (BS) and small portable Broadband Modems as User Equipment (UE). The network system connects to industry standard IP core network forming a complete solution for licensed Operator and Internet Service Provider (ISP) to offer true fixed, portable and mobile broadband access.

Later on IFRAnet's UE will include optional features, e.g. firewall, VPN, IP-telephony, LAN-router, WLAN access point and many other software applications.

Benefits for the Operator

The technology has higher performance, greater flexibility and lower lifetime costs than existing data access offerings (such as FWA, GPRS, UMTS-FDD, DSL, HFC). The air interface technology utilizes advanced signal processing techniques that results in higher throughput.

Coverage

Wide Area Network coverage and Indoor coverage means that the Operator can efficiently and cost-effectively offer services to customers throughout a marketplace. Depending on the environment and on the frequency band, the cell range is normally up to 5 Km but may be up to 50 Km.

Scalability

It is a highly scalable, modular solution that allows the Operator to easily deploy success-based capital as it grows its business.

Customer Experience

It is simple. The customer device is easily procured (existing distribution model) and installed (“plug & play”). Normally, neither external antenna nor professional installation is required.

Mobility

The system enables nomadic use and will later support full mobility. The nomadic as well as the mobility feature frees the user terminal being tied to a fixed location.

Standards Compliance

The WIMAX compliance means that the Operator will be leveraging the worldwide standard for wireless data communication. In addition to being able to offer WIMAX network interoperability and customer roaming, the Operator will enjoy the large benefits of being part of a standard, including:

·         Rapidly declining UE and Network infrastructure cost curve due to wide scale WIMAX adoption
·
Wide range of applications developed for common platform
·
The Operator will be able to source equipment from multiple vendors
·
The Operator enjoys R&D benefits of $ Billions in past and future investment by major telecom vendors

Applications

One and the same Mobile Broadband Access Network can be used for any kind of communication - voice, data, video etc. - and for more applications than you ever can imagine. Here are some examples.
